Sufjan Stevens, 'The Age of Adz' [Tunes]: Sufjan Stevens once announced a bold plan to record an album for each of the 50 states. After 'Illinois,' the second record in the series catapulted him to critical glory in 2005 (the first was based on his home in Michigan), the project seemed to be well on its way. Eventually Stevens would admit the project was a promotional gimmick, instead setting on a number of obscure projects, including recording an original film and symphony score based on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (the event sold out the Brooklyn Opera House with no advertising). Stevens has finally released a new non-state oriented album, streaming on NPR through October 12.
The Seattle Kings Would Work Just Fine: Looks like the NBA is bailing out on supporting the Kings franchise in Sacramento. There's no chance of approval for a move to Las Vegas after the All-Star game debacle. Think the NBA would agree to send Durant back with the Kings if they moved to Seattle?
Qatar's World Cup Bid: Qatar released its architectural drawings for its 2022 World Cup Bid. It probably has zero chance of winning, but here's hoping some of these designs are incorporated into the next generation of stadiums.
Another Day, Another Soccer Party with a Tranny: Three Mexican national players were caught partying with 14 'vice girls' and a transvestite at an after-match party. Who knew that prostitutes have become organized enough to create a "Vice Girl" position? I wonder if their corporate structure works the same as banks, where everyone automatically becomes a Vice President after two years on the job.
Goodfellas Revisited: Much is revealed in this 20th anniversary interview about Martin Scorsese's greatest work. It had the most expensive movie soundtrack in history. There were real Italian gangsters cast as extras throughout the movie. Scorsese's best friend growing up in Little Italy was the son of a mob boss who helped inspire the film. And, though it thankfully never happened, Tom Cruise and Madonna were discussed to play the lead roles in the film.
No Longer the Transportation of the Future: Tragically, the multi-millionare owner of Segway scooters died after riding one off a cliff. There's a punchline somewhere, but not here.
How Soon Until we have an App for This? The owner of the Miami Dolphins has purchased the rights to FanVision, a handheld device that will allow viewers in NFL stadiums to watch other live games, the Red Zone channel, or even access replays of a play at the game they are at directly from stadium cameras. Considering the price of NFL games these days, the gadget seems like a steal at $200.
Don't Tickle The Elmo: An Elmo attacked at a toy store strikes back, which leads to the inevitable question of when the UFC and WWF will start showing fights between masked stars from children's programming. Seems like they're missing out on a whole market segment there.
Video Games on Super Easy Mode. A great blast from the past, Duck Hunt with a gatling gun and beating up King Hippo are particularly good:
